Wine barrels and rain barrels

Of the wine barrels that we import, ninety percent comes from the French Bordeaux region. Bordeaux is a city in the south-west of France, known the world over for the wines from the region. From this special region, we obtain our 225-litre transport barrels of between one and six years old, in collaboration with well-known writer and wine grower Ilja Gort. Most of the barrels are made into bistro chairs, wine barrel chairs, wooden stools, chandeliers or lounge sets. But when stocks allow, you can also buy them from us as wine barrel or rain barrel.

This is how wine barrels are made

The wine barrel is very important for the taste and the aroma of red wine during its development inside the barrel. Wine barrels are still made by hand. Making a wine barrel requires craftsmanship. That starts with selecting the right trees and the splitting of the tree trunks. After that, the wood needs to be dried in the right way and for a certain period of time. Then the staves are heated by fire.

Bending and making the staves fit securely is a precision task as well.

Buy a wine barrel or rain barrel?

To be honest, what we enjoy most is making furniture out of them. Lounge sets, lamps, stools, chairs. That is why we do not always have wine barrels for sale. But if we have sufficient stock, you are welcome to order one or more. Just contact us to see if we have some available.

Used wine barrels

Barrel Atelier only has used wine barrels for sale. Wine barrels that have lived a useful life, but can be of value again. Buying used instead of new wine barrels is better for people and the environment. In addition, it is nice to know that the wine barrel you are buying has had lovely wine maturing in it. You can feel, see and smell that!
